Monsoon Foods

Hello all,
Monsoon is here and rains are amazing. but it bring along a list of diseases and attack on the body. Sounds terrifying, well not to panic. we are going to discuss a bit on the right foods and check on some good habits to increase our immunity.

WHY?

Diseases during monsoons are very common, especially digestive related. Poor digestion leads to a term called cellular starvation which works against your body by making your metabolism slow and increases your fat storage. Gas formation and indigestion is a silent pain giver in monsoon. It is very important to be careful of what you eat.

SOLUTION - CHANGE IN A BIT OF DIET:

Opt for more of light foods, liquid diet, give your digestive system a bit of ease. Hard foods like meat etc are hard to digest in monsoons.

  • Home made soups – A good way of keeping the essential supply of vitamins and nutrients  to the body. Thin buttermilk and lime are great add ups.

  • Cereals – Dry fruits boost – make the most of it for supplying good amounts of vitamins and nutrients to the body to keep the energy and immunity up in this weather. Almonds and dates are very good.

  • Fruits-  Apples, lime fruits, pomegranates, bananas.

  • Vegetables: Ladyfinger, gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, pointed gourd.  Include foods like tomatoes, tamarind.

  • Dry herbs :Pepper, sonth, turmeric, coriander, jeera, asafoetida should be used regularly to improve your immunity and repair damage inside.

SOMETHING TO AVOID:

 1. Give raw vegetables and fruits a miss. More prevalence of bacteria in air can result in jaundice and typhoid . Stay away from semi cooked food.

2. Try to avoid juice consumption from outside at every cost. Even if you have it at home consume it as soon as you take it out. Don’t let it sit out for much time.

3. Try not to have sea food. Watch out for prawns and fish. This season is their breeding season. So best left untouched. Stewed non vegetarian food will work better.

TIPS:

  • Drink plenty of water especially boiled..
  • Make sure to wash all the fruits and vegetables nicely, you can prepare in half a litre of water  25 ml of vinegar. Surprisingly vinegar kills 99% of bacteria and is a widely accepted cleansing agent.
  • Wash your hands regularly

  •
