Hi all,
New year bells ringing, new year resolutions top priority, eating healthy one of them, that i am sure about. So keeping the taste alive, i have decided to cut out the ready made market jam and replace it with a more healthy and tasty one, home made jam.
Apple is one of the healthiest and best fruits available and so is ginger as herb and cinnamon smell. All of them would make a lovely squad for this treat.
INGREDIENTS:
- 6 LARGE APPLES (since we need to store it for our future tasty encounters) PEELED, CHOPPED
- 30-40 GRAMS OF GINGER, PEELED AND MINCED.
- JUICE OF 1 LEMON OR LESS ACCORDING TO YOUR PREFERENCE
- 1 TABLESPOON OF CINNAMON
- 1 KG SUGAR OR JAM SUGAR
WHAT YOU NEED:
- 1 LARGE STEEL POT
- JARS FOR JAM
GETTING STARTED:
- Put the apple peel and core in a pot and fill it up with water. keep the simmer alive to cook it soft. when reached to desired softness , strain through a netted cloth or tea towel into a bowl and leave it aside.
- Transfer the chopped apples with minced ginger and lemon juice with 1/2 litre of water.
- Cook them at a steady simmer keeping medium high heat until the apples break and go soft.
- add in sugar and the liquid strained from cores and peel. keep stirring until the sugar has dissolved and bring it to boil.
- Bring the heat to a steady simmer and continue to cook for about 20 mins and every now and then stir so it doesn't sit and touched the bottom of pot. Add your favourite cinnamon.
- If unsure the jam is ready, there is 2 ways to check, one way is to use a candy thermometer. the temperature to read is 220 degrees, the other way to do is put a plate in fridge to cold it, bring out the cold plate and put a spoonful of your jam on it and put it back in fridge for 4-5 minutes.if it wrinkles its ready.
- Transfer the jam in your jars and seal while still hot.
There we go, all ready with this new delicious healthy jam. Use it anytime to eat with your bread or pancakes or add it as a topping on your cupcakes or muffins. Suit according to your taste.
